Landon's Miracle
As many of you know, on April 27th Landon had a terrible baseball injury. He was playing the position of coach's pitcher when a line drive struck him directly in the mouth. His two front permanent teeth were knocked completely out of his mouth. The teeth destroyed everything in it's path on their way out, leaving him with a facial fracture and lots of blood under the top lip. I remember the pain we felt in the depths of our heart for our son on that very sad day. All I could think of was how Mary felt as she watched her son, Jesus, get beaten and then nailed to a cross to die. We stood there watching him in so much pain, desperately wanting to take this pain from this child. We felt helpless. In a matter of two days Landon had seen more than four doctors, all saying they had never seen anything like this before. I was devastated. I would be strong on the outside for Landon, but on the inside I was freaking out!! For about three days after the accident I never left his side not for a minute. I stayed with him through the night and just sat up watching him breathe as he slept. I remember crying one night with Brian saying, "my precious boy""my precious son." I thought the pain would never end. It was not like he had a broken arm or leg. Although those injuries are serious, they heal with time and then you use them again. Landon losing his two front teeth meant a long line of painful surgeries, partials, and eventually implants.
Here is where Landon's miracle begins...we turned to our God! I prayed for God to send Landon a miracle. In the flesh I knew that two more teeth growing back would be impossible, but in spirit I knew God could make anything happen. So I started praying and believing for a miracle, knowing without a doubt that God had a plan for Landon's life and I trusted that plan. I was not going to panic.
It was time to visit the orthodontist. Two weeks prior to the orthodontist visit a very dear friend of mine, Kristy, prayed with me for Landon. It was after Pastor Dino's message, "I have a friend who is sick." Kristy was one of the few people that knew I wanted to go to the altar with Landon for healing, but was helping with guest services so she prayed with me in the church foyer. I took Landon to the orthodontist not expecting anything big but just knew this was the next step. The doctor came in and began to assess Landon's situation. He told me we can do one of two things: 1. put a partial (like a retainer) and later receive implants, which I thought that was why we were going to see him anyway. Or, here's the big one, he could pull Landon's lateral teeth to the front with braces, have a dentist bond those teeth, fix them up and he would have his own two front teeth throughout the rest of his life and that procedure would eliminate surgeries and implants later on. WOW!!! I told the orthodontist he was awesome and immediately looked to God and thanked HIM!! Here is the awesome part, just minutes before I got that fabulous news I realized I was sitting in Kristy's office. Kristy is a Dental Hygienist and the orthodontist borrows her office on Wednesday afternoons to see patients in Gonzales. I remember seeing her pictures and two crosses on the wall and saying, "Thank you, God" I began to cry and the consultants cried with me as I shared Landon's story with them. It was confirmed for me again at that moment that God has not changed. He is still a miracle worker and is doing miraculous things in Landon's life!!
Now, we just have to pray that his lateral teeth are strong enough to do a new and very important job in Landon's mouth!! I am standing in prayer and believing that this miracle is already written and I cannot wait to watch God finish this for Landon. Please pray with us!!
Finally, I met a mom in church who told me that as she prayed with her son the night before he told her that Landon told him that "God healed my teeth!!"
We are blessed more than we know and look forward to what God has in store for us!!!!!
